Review on Brother MFCL2710DW: Compact All-In-One Monochrome Laser Printer with Wireless Networking, Duplex Printing, and Amazon Dash Replenishment Ready by John Caldwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Beware of these Brother printers that require a proprietary chip on the toner cartridge

For this MFCL2710 and other recent Brother MFC models (as well as DCP models) the printer must have a toner cartridge (TN730 or TN760 respectively) that has its own chip on the toner cartridge. This makes it impossible to buy 3rd party toner, except for toner that requires you to remove the chip from the Brother toner cartridge (TN730 or TN760) and insert it into the 3rd party cartridge. Even so, third-party cartridges cost twice the regular price of third-party cartridges that don't require a chip. MAKE SURE you research the toner cartridge market before buying a Brother printer. Google third party MFCL2710 toner and MFCL2700 cartridges and compare prices and requirements for branded chips in MFCL2710 cartridges. The older MFCL2700 can use third-party TN660 toner cartridges, which cost much less than a Brother-made toner cartridge and are often half the price of an equivalent third-party TN760 toner cartridge. The TN660 cartridge does not have a chip and the MFCL2700 does not require a cartridge with a chip attached.
