Due to a few things, this doesn't work. The length should be a little longer, it hardly protrudes beyond the edge of the water heater body when standing on the heating element, making the lever very difficult to use. Then the stamped steel doesn't really fit and is too loose. So when you finally get a decent angle to put some kind of leverage on it, the thing still slides off. The element does not pull out easily. Very frustrating. I ended up using a 1 1/2" socket with an extension and break bar. Easy job with the right tools but that's not one of them. I usually read reviews before ordering products but this one was offered with the purchase of a heating element and I just put it in my cart Bad idea.
