I have now installed two of these fan remote controls. This was my choice after the derailleur lever broke. A search for replacement switches revealed that only very inferior switches were available. My wife always had problems with the chain tension. The pull chain is difficult to find in the dark. One of my fans is hanging from a hanging rod and the switch housing under the fan is too small for this controller. As an electronics expert, I managed to circumvent this limitation by removing the device from the black plastic case and carefully trimming two corners of the circuit board. I then wrapped tape around the board to prevent short circuits from contact with the metal case or screws. I was then able to easily fit the control box into the fan switch housing. However, a better and less complicated solution might be to completely remove the fan from the ceiling and install the control box inside the ceiling outlet box. Another reviewer found this solution to work. There was a problem with the second controller I received. The "Medium" and "Low" speed settings were too slow. The "Low" setting barely moved the fan blade. I examined the board and found that one of the capacitor leads was not soldered properly. Re-soldering this connection was a quick job and the controller has been working flawlessly ever since. Despite these minor issues, I am very positive about this product and give it five stars.
