I spent hours looking for a good laptop cooling pad. I even brought back the one I thought was perfect and ended up teaching myself a lesson. I'm actually surprised that more people haven't commented or encountered the problem I'm having. The original laptop cooling pad I received has a metal grille on top for the laptop to sit on. In fact, all laptop cooling pads now seem to have this metal shield. They even claim it helps keep the laptop cool and advertise it as a feature. However, when my laptop was sitting on that first metal laptop cooling pad, my Wi-Fi connection suddenly dropped. You might not notice too much if you're just browsing the web. You might not even notice it when streaming video, hammering it out on the usual Wi-Fi instability. But when I tried to play the game, you could actually see this metal interfering with the Wi-Fi signal. The lag I encountered was incredible and as soon as I lifted the laptop off this cooling pad and removed it, the lag was gone. This makes sense, most articles recommend keeping your router away from metal objects that can interfere with the signal. To maximize your Wi-Fi signal, you'll want to make sure there isn't any metal blocking the path. As for why nobody has encountered this problem before, I'm not sure. Of course I haven't received my new laptop yet, so the laptop I used on this original cooling pad was about 10 years old. Perhaps the Wi-Fi receiver inside was just getting old and just not as powerful and efficient as the newer Wi-Fi5 and Wi-Fi6 receivers. Maybe my new laptop with wifi6 would have no problem. But even if a newer laptop could overcome the interference, they'd have to work a lot harder and that's probably why you're still not getting the best signal. So I sent back this original laptop cooling pad and searched again. It was very difficult to find one that didn't have metal on it. But this one showed up. It doesn't have any fancy LED indicators or a display. It doesn't have a USB hub or separate power cord. It only has two fans. But it's all fairly durable yet lightweight plastic. I'm not suggesting you scatter it. Hit it with objects or damage the moving components inside if you handle it roughly. BUT the plastic is strong enough for this purpose. The grooves are also a nice feature for directing airflow, which I find better than some flat metal grilles. In fact, some of the more expensive laptop coolers have metal with ducts placed underneath to increase airflow, and the laptop doesn't rest on the metal. This is achieved through the plastic channels. No metal to interfere with Wi-Fi (OK, maybe some ball bearings and fan wiring, but not enough to be an issue). I bought it for my ASUS ROG G15 gaming laptop. I've heard of heat issues on this laptop and just wanted to add some cool airflow and elevate the laptop. It serves this purpose perfectly. You can hear the fans, but they're not very loud and easily get lost in the background if you're not paying attention to them. The cooling pad's fan noise is usually drowned out by the laptop's GPU fan, which turns on during intense gaming (which itself isn't very loud and is easily lost in the background). The laptop stand is lightweight and fits in my small backpack to carry with my laptop. . Although it should be USB powered, you can connect it to a USB hub or surge protector that may have USB charging ports. Note, however, that if you are connecting anything other than a laptop or a laptop-powered USB hub, you will need to use the manual power button. He won't win a single beauty pageant. But my laptop sits securely and that little bit of extra cool air is a benefit, along with keeping the laptop elevated and free of obstructions. Overall this is a good buy and a good product. Nothing outstanding or fantastic. Average 3 stars means it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
