They are perfect for baby's first rattle. My daughter is 15 weeks old, she doesn't know how to shake a rattle yet but she takes it easy. I can put it in her hand and not have to worry about her hitting her face with a hard object because I just put the soft side of the rattle against her face when she's holding it. Therefore, when she moves her little hands, only a soft pillow touches her face, but she can still safely learn that when she moves it, she makes a sound like a real rattle. Rattles also look the same as in the photo. They are also great toys that can be used to slowly move the toy from side to side and up and down, improving motor skills such as eye movement and focus. I like that the side of the pillow isn't too thick so if it gets wet it dries quickly.
