I am a gemologist practicing as an independent appraiser. I always carry it in my purse and *use* it. Several other gemologist reviewers have recommended it to me as an affordable and reliable workhorse, and it is. For the price it is excellent value for money. At 10x magnification, it meets the industry standard for loupe diamonds and has acceptable optics with no blurring or other distortions. [UPDATE February 20, 2018]: I bought another one for non-personal use. This isn't a Hawk or any other high-end magnifier, it's a . this is very, very acceptable for most purposes. I recommend it. The only thing that could improve it is a small storage box. I use a plastic storage bag to keep the inevitable handbags out. The attached photos show a quartz cabochon with inclusions of dumortierite needles, and a magnifying glass used at about 12x magnification (if I remember correctly) to photograph the cluster of cabochon needles. For reference, the length of the cabochon is about 12mm. And I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone that zooms to about 8x but not well. When photographing gemstones I zoom in about 4-5x and otherwise use a magnifying glass. The only editing I've done to this photo is cropping. The cabochon was not erased and I had some issues with camera shake (too much caffeine) and of course I was focusing manually and NOT using any styling software. But the thing is, the magnifying glass works pretty well.
