This is the latest and cheapest Cree LED available today. The quality and quantity of light is very good, but there are some compromises with the new design. The "4-flow" radiator saves both cost and weight with "open air" ventilation on the top and bottom of the piston. From an aesthetic point of view, the air vents are clearly visible when the lights are on. In terms of practicality, I wouldn't recommend this for outdoor lighting due to the risk of contamination. A "closed" outdoor lamp provides better lighting in the long run. I had a problem installing these lights in a garage door opener. I replaced some pretty pathetic 40 watt CFLs and the Cree LEDs didn't work at all at first. I tried the same Cree bulbs in a completely different socket and they worked. It appeared that the bulb did not reach the hot contact tab at the end of the cartridge. I pry the contact tab out with a flathead screwdriver, with the breaker off, heh, put the bulb back in and it started working. In my experience there can be a very slight gap issue with how these bulbs sit in certain sockets. If your lightbulb is "DOA" or stops working one day, try plugging it into a different socket to see what the problem is.
