Review on Now Natural Foods: Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder - Unflavored (16oz) by Ian Hallford

Terrible taste and poorly soluble in water; There is chalk on the tongue

Hasn't anyone at Now Sports tried this protein powder before deciding that "no taste" was acceptable? Because sometimes additives are needed to mask the taste of unpleasant natural ingredients. This definitely applies to their pumpkin seed protein powder. Because mixed with water, the taste is rather unpleasant! I followed the package directions and tried mixing 2 tablespoons of protein powder with 8 ounces of cold water (6 ounces on the directions). -8 oz, but 6 oz is not enough to mix with powder). Unfortunately, the powder is quite hydrophobic and 2 tablespoons doesn't dissolve well in 8 ounces of water. I beat non-stop for several minutes with tiny whisks and the protein powder never completely dissolved. Instead, it formed a viscous suspension of a runny, soupy consistency. The dark brown color was also repulsive. The "unflavored" taste of pumpkin seed protein is awful and had a chalky consistency that coated my tongue and left a horrible aftertaste (that took a while to go away). Yuck.It tried to make lemonade out of lemons. and added various ingredients to make the protein powder in water delicious. First there was stevia - no, the result was just a sweeter tasting mush. Then there was peppermint extract with sweetener - better, but still not very tasty. Finally, I tried chocolate syrup—definitely the best for masking the taste of protein powder, but the chalky mouthfeel was still very common. I think the only possible use for this pumpkin seed protein powder is to hide it in a blender smoothie. open. Compared to other protein powders, this product also contains less protein per serving (10g) but much more sodium (170mg). I believe if anyone is looking for an organic vegan source of protein powder, this Now Sports product will suffice in a pinch. However, I cannot recommend it for daily use.
