So, as some others have said, the frame size is a little smaller than it should be. I have an 8.5 x 12 piece of art I wanted to frame (beautifully painted artistic design on thick paper) and was planning to put a mat underneath as it would be too small for the frame (and after looking at some of the frames, I it became clear that this frame would not look good, it is intended for art, to fill everything) In any case, it turned out that there was only a few millimeters of excess height, and in fact the frame was not wide enough. Luckily there was plenty of free space in the picture so I carefully took my X-Acto knife and cut about 4mm from the side and it fitted perfectly. If your painting fits in the frame, it will look great.
