Bottom line, this isn't an expensive mic, but as the manufacturer says, the mic is a lot better than the built-in mic on my camcorders. I can't tell you how it would perform outside as my application is more like a studio setup, but indoors, even with the fans blowing directly onto the mic, a simple foam windscreen was able to eliminate most background noise. I can see that the mount itself has no real cushioning. So if you intend to hold the camera in your hand, you may hear unwanted noises during handling. With the camera mounted on a tripod and the mic on the camera, this mic performs exactly as I hoped it would. Easily outperforms many other microphones that cost twice as much.
