The 9V battery that came with it wasn't good, but otherwise an essential tool in cable making. After using this device for a few weeks, I found that the connector you plug into the device is very finicky. He doesn't seem to like through plugs which sometimes causes an open circuit to occur. I probably should have sent it back but ended up cutting the short factory patch cord in half and adding RJ45 connectors to make pigtails to replace the new connectors for the device. My repair for the device cost me about half the price of this simple device.
