I buy USB flash drives as gifts for students, and the price is important, but so is the quality. Higher quality may cost a dollar or two more per stick, but it also gives a sense of our quality and the value we place on our students. In this case, I didn't have to compromise on price, although there was some demand for flash drive prices. I first bought these Kingston Data Travelers in 2012-2013 when they first went on sale and was impressed. on a metal body. Here it is 7 years later and this is my favorite USB. A friend across the continent still has one and has been wearing it on a chain for 7 years. The fact that Kingston still makes them is a testament to their functionality and durability. I read a few negative reviews before buying a batch of 12 discs (32GB, USB 2.0) and while I suppose there's always a few lemons, all 12 worked great in one week of classes. I noticed that they are a little tight for the first few uses. The only difference between my 7 year old flash and these is that the older one has a slightly different hue and surface "roughness" compared to the metal. Actually, this is a minor cosmetic difference and is not surprising nor a problem. In an ideal world, I'd like 32GB, USB 3.0, and all for the price of a Frapacino (or less, of course). And indeed, Kingston may offer this in a different version of the Traveler (Kingston DataTraveler SE9 G2 USB 3.0 Flash Drive). I chose this older version, 32GB USB 2.0 as it's smaller on a keychain (or chain) but I also bought the USB 3.0 version and I really like it. It's hard to go wrong with either one. After 7 years, there are not many electronic products left on the market. If you are thinking about buying it I would suggest trying it. Now that I have found them again I will buy them for future gifts and for myself.
