This is the fifth Canon camera I have owned and the best compact camera I have ever used. The manual controls are very easy to use and the images are very beautiful when using the automatic modes. I bought this camera to take with me when my DSLR is impractical or uncomfortable. I read a few reviews from people complaining about poor low light performance and I was a bit skeptical before I bought it. But now I understand why they might think that way. Adjusting the ISO isn't that easy with most point-and-shoot cameras, so people tend to leave them in auto mode and get shots with lower ISO and faster shutter speeds in low-light conditions. Images can be a little blurry due to restless hands, but they're not grainy. However, this camera has the controls right on the spot, making it easy to set the ISO to unreasonable values, resulting in grainy images. This is the best point and shoot camera I have ever used. If you're looking for this type of camera, or even a cheap DSLR (and still not sure which lenses you need), give this camera serious consideration because you'll continue to carry and use it even if you do too have an SLR camera. .
