Update: This device's USB extender (an extra port that allows you to connect your laptop to a fan without losing your USB port) has stopped working . It gradually became unstable and now it doesn't work anymore. I didn't move this and didn't plug and unplug a lot of things so it didn't seem to work. Now I have to break down my initial enthusiasm for this fan. It elevates my old laptop and cools it down with a fan and vents. The computer fan no longer works like it did with my old fan. I have had several of these units and this one is pretty quiet. The design is great for a stationary situation where you can tilt it to different angles on the table. This doesn't work if you want to use your laptop on your lap (better use a cooling pad for this purpose). Fan speed is controlled by a dial located on the back of the device. There is a slight hum at the maximum setting, and a very slight hum at a lower setting.
