Review on Mounting HFEIX Conversion Bracket Install by Zack Block

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Careful set of adapters, but for side mounting only, not threaded like a hard drive.

This bracket kit is useful when installing SSDs in older PC cases that don't have 2.5" drive bays, or when you want the mounting points for 2.5" drives in run out of new buildings. The mounts won't work in all situations (details below) but they come in a good kit that contains most of the parts you'll need for a successful installation. The mounts themselves are of reasonable quality to do their job. At 0.7mm, the metal is thinner than the 1.0mm you'll find on higher end parts, but that's okay as the shackle won't support much weight. The finish is simple, with glossy black paint (good), semi-sharp edges (not great), and sharp ridges where the brackets have separated from other parts. The screw holes on the brackets line up as intended and match the side mounting holes on the 3.5" hard drive. However, there are no bottom 3.5" mounting holes, so these brackets will not work in drive bays that attach to the bottom of the hard drive. The holes on these brackets are for M3 screws (commonly used for 2.5" and DVD drives) instead of the larger #6-32 UNC screws used for 3.5" hard drives. Unfortunately, this is a common mistake when using cheap adapter mounts, even though the #6-32 thread has been the standard for decades. This is not always a problem, but some PC cases have special hard drive mounting screws (e.g. anti-vibration) that do not fit these adapters. Deductions are made for economy mounts that don't have the same threads as 3.5-inch hard drives. It's functional enough for a 4-star rating, but make sure your 3.5" hard drive bays are side-mounted and allow for M3 threaded screws.
