Review on ๐Ÿ”ฆ WindFire 3X CREE XM-L T6 3800Lm LED Bicycle Light with Rechargeable Battery and Charger - Ideal for Outdoor Activities by John Wells

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great headlight - good luck finding replacement batteries (my solution included)

3 Cree T6 LEDs) via Revain. I ride 1-2 times a week for 1 hour 45 minutes each time and use the headlamp all the time (day or night) for safety reasons. There are hundreds of these fixtures out there but I will say that a) I really like this fixture but b) 3800lm is ridiculously bright and if I had to do it again I would go for something in the 1000-2000lm range . (However, it's not such a big problem that I wanted to change the headlights.) Original batteries (a few popular Chinese brands) powered my rides, but needed to be charged every time. After 2 years, the battery would no longer be enough for my full trip. This started the hunt for new batteries. Tigervivi 8.4V 6400mAh Silicone Waterproof 4 x 18650 Battery Pack for Headlight and Bike Lights If you are reading this you have probably realized like me that buying replacement batteries for your high power headlights is not that easy. I purchased the above battery in July 2016 for $13.86. Don't waste your money. Out of the box, this battery would not be enough for a trip. Based on a comparison with detailed measurements I've done on subsequent battery purchases, I estimate the actual capacity of this battery to be 800-1000mAh. If the $14 suits you, go for it. Otherwise read on. Anyway, I give this 1 star for misrepresenting product results. I found a good solution, but it's a lot more expensive than even the original $20 headlight. Regardless, I'm very happy with it...read on. Waterproof Hanperal 4 X 18650 Battery Case Housing Cover for Bike Bicycle Lamp. In July 2016 I bought a battery box for the 18650 batteries that power these powerful bike lights. The case I bought was from a different brand (Solarstorm 2S2P 18650 battery case) from GearBest.com, but it is exactly the same as the case above which is available from Revain for $15.99. (I paid $8 at GearBest.com.) The case seems well made and allows you to remove the 18650 batteries one by one. The top also has an O-ring to prevent water ingress and a DC plug that works with the cheap DC charger that came with the original headlight to charge all four 18650 batteries in the case. I'm not rating the Hanperal case (because I can't swear it's the same as mine) but I'm very happy with what I bought. Battery SunLabz 18650 3.7 V (4 pcs.) 3400 mAh. The batteries got me the most nervous as they don't even have a brand name, I've never heard of SunLabz and my experience with the Tigervivi battery made me less credible. But on the advice of a friend, I bought it anyway. Since I bought a nifty little charger (see below) that measures how much current each battery is drawing, I was able to fully discharge them (I know this is bad for batteries) and fully charge them to check capacity. I am very happy to report that all four are 3460-3525mAh so I have no hesitation in recommending them. For the $19.95 price I paid, they're not exactly cheap, but given the amount of power they can handle, they're good value. I make a full 3 trips with it (ie >5 hours of continuous use) after which the turn signal button on my headlight turns red (although the headlight is still bright). These measurements formed the basis of my assessment of the lean capacity of the Tigervivi batteries discussed above. (Note that each SunLabz battery has almost twice the capacity of all four Tigervivi batteries combined). XTAR VC4 charger for lithium-ion and NiMH batteries. a simple charger that came with my headlight. However, I am very happy with this $21.75 charger. It's compact, flexible (multi-battery capable), automatically detects the battery type and provides meaningful data about the charged batteries (which speaks to the engineer in me). Although it turned out I didn't need this charger, I was happy to keep it and ended up charging a couple of NiMH batteries I've since bought. I will say that it came with scratches on the front panel which may indicate poor handling by Schenzhen Precious Technology, Ltd (seller) or even that the device has been in use. However, it works so well that I've decided not to downgrade it on that basis. Bottom line - it took a lot more effort than I thought or thought it should, but I found a really great battery solution for my bike headlight. which I hope will be useful to others.
