When I first replaced an ink cartridge, this printer refused a new cartridge recommended by HP. I bought a second cartridge and the printer also rejected it. I called tech support and they sent me a third cartridge which was also defective. The printer was only a few months old, but HP technical support advised me to throw the printer away and buy a new one. <Soapbox> Communication between printers and cartridges is out of control, IMHO. The printer shouldn't be able to discard an ink cartridge just to sell more ink. Buying ink has become the equivalent of paying for a subscription to keep using your printer, which I find grossly unfair. Ink is ink and we need to be able to refill it and use our printers for a very long time. Replacing cartridges and especially printers too early is not only a waste of money, but also a significant waste of resources and an excess of technical waste in our landfills. <Off Soapbox> I threw away my HP printer and am looking for a better brand other than HP.
