Well for its size it worked very well (just a small air stone removed). It was quiet and the air stone worked with no issues. I hooked it up to a sponge filter for a few minutes to see how it did, but it just didn't have the power to do it. Unfortunately after a month of use it stopped working. In my case, using an air stone only in a tank with no fish/shrimp didn't make much of a difference at the time. But if you had such a filter in an aquarium with something sensitive like shrimp and it stopped working, that could be a bad situation. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this pump because while it worked, it was great. just maybe keep a backup in case you need it.
