Review on πŸ“· Canon EW-73B Lens Hood: Ideal Accessory for 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS EF-S and 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lenses by Karen Murray

Works but not as strong as expected

I bought this lens hood for my Canon T4i with the 18-135mm STM kit lens. I originally intended to use a UV filter to protect the lens, but others suggested using a lens hood instead to avoid adding another piece of glass in the light path. The lens hood eliminates sun flare in your shots and also provides some lens protection from bumps etc. I chose the Canon EW-73B lens hood as it wasn't much more expensive than the "fake" ones (only $21.50) . I also read reviews that the Canon version was higher quality (velvet interior) and a better fit than the cheaper versions. The Canon EW-73B delivers on all of those promises - the interior is very smooth and feels very well constructed, and the fit is absolutely perfect - it snaps in very well. The only disappointment (and the only reason this isn't a 5 star review) is that the plastic feels a little flimsy. I can compress the hood very easily by pinching it slightly on the sides. As a result, I can say that it certainly won't protect my lens from drops over 6 inches. The defensive advantage only applies to fairly soft hits. Just a few things to note but I am very happy with this purchase.

  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Something different
