Review on 💻 Macally Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac - Rechargeable Multi-Device Keyboard for MacOS iOS PC Android - Space Gray by Tom Oberhue

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not bad for the price

Macally Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard is a good choice. It feels solid and the buttons are responsive. The keystroke and travel are the same as the Apple Magic Keyboard. It fits perfectly on your desk or on your lap. The bottom is made of stainless steel and offers the keyboard a good grip. I think Macally will save some money by making the top plate out of plastic. Bluetooth works well; I sit a foot or two from my MacBook Pro with my keyboard and have never lost touch. This keyboard falls asleep too often for my liking. Perhaps this is done to save battery power. Speaking of which, the battery life seems to be good. I charged it a week ago and it's still working fine. I wish there was a way to check the battery level, but unfortunately there isn't. A useful feature is that there is a caps lock indicator that alerts you when caps lock is on. Unlike the Apple Magic Keyboard (which has an indicator on the Caps Lock key), the indicator is in the top-right corner, just at the opposite end of the keyboard from the key. It's kind of a Windows keyboard way of thinking. Apparently Macally is trying to bridge the Mac and Windows world with this keyboard since they include the Fn key. They make room for it by making the Mac CMD key and Option key half the size of a Mac keyboard. That's kind of a downside, and I personally think they have to make a choice: is it a Mac keyboard, a Windows keyboard, or just something that's trying to please everyone? But overall it's pretty good and I'll keep using it on my second Mac. UPDATE 4/12/20: The internal battery lasts about a week and a half on a full charge and without using the switch. So if you turn off your keyboard every night, it's likely to last a little longer.

Pros
  • The best in its niche
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
