After reading the reviews here and on other sites, despite the comments on the stiffness, like others who have owned Florsheim shoes for many years, I decided to order them anyway. And like many writers, I own and wear many types of shoes, ranging from expensive to budget, depending on the need and use of the shoe, and I generally find Flshm shoes on the higher end of the line. But compared to Cole-Haan, Johnston/Murphy, Allen-Edmunds, or even Bass or Timberland. Unfortunately it was a joke. They certainly look good, fit and finish appear to be the same in price. But toughness is perhaps an understatement. They looked like ski boots to me. In fact I couldn't even get my foot in the shoe and at 10.5 I'm wearing a pretty standard environment. It wasn't even close. And I've never been told in my life that I have a skyscraper as such. And to be honest, I'm well into my 60s, so I've worn a lot of shoes. The upper tongue above the tassel reached to the point where it was literally impossible to get your foot even remotely "into" the shoe. I think I need 11.5 or 12.5 to even wear them. For those who find they worked. More performance for you. But I can't imagine how it happened. The sides of the shoes have no play and do not buckle! I keep lasts in all my boots to keep them from curling over time. They would never be needed. They came out of the box with a small plastic extension to hold the shape. He broke pulling it out of his shoes because the shoes didn't fit. I gave them a "3" simply because they looked good. If you're used to fairly comfortable shoes, either after a little use or right out of the box, this was far from the answer for me. I returned them the next day. There's no point in keeping them and trying later.
