Watts Up Doc?: Lighting & Ceiling Fans

To compare with this product; Previously I used a gooseneck table lamp with a 9W 800 lumen LED bulb. 800 lumens is about 25% below the high end of the 60 watt incandescent equivalent range. And 9 watts gives a single LED bulb an energy efficiency of about 88.9 lumens per watt. The LE lamp uses 54 LEDs to produce 500 lumens and consumes 8 watts of power. At 500 lumens, it's above the high end of the 40-watt incandescent equivalent range (perhaps the low 50-watt equivalent). And 8 watts give the entire light with all 54 LEDs an energy efficiency of 62.5 lumens per watt. The lower efficiency is due to the device using 54 individual LEDs instead of a single bulb. I'm NOT going to take the unit apart just to figure out how to do it, but LE did a great job distributing the LEDs; to achieve an even light effect. And the distribution of 500 lumens across the light band compensates for the difference of 300 lumens; because the light is distributed more evenly over a larger area. As long as the streak of light is along the long (forward) axis of the rectangular base; Lamp stability is sufficient. But if the streak of light is arranged along the short axis of the base; Stability becomes moderately unacceptable. Buckling is also noticeable when the support bar holding the light bar is more than 35 degrees from vertical. But the ability to rotate the light strip around its axis allows you to position the light where you need it. without having to place a mast or lightbar in dangerous (unstable) locations. To protect the lightbar, you can glue a floor protector cork pad near the bottom of the lightbar bracket; so that the light bar does not "crack” when folded; making an alarming "metal/glass on metal" noise. I use the lamp at my work place and it is usually on for about 9 hours at a time. The light strip only gets moderately warm when held in the hand.
