Review on Sangean PR D7 BK Rechargeable Portable by Will Rahman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

After Hurricane Harvey. Lesson learned.

When the rain from Hurricane Harvey inundated Houston (52 inches!), I was horrified to find my so-called emergency radio was complete crap. I stupidly bought one of those multifunction radios with crank, battery and flashlight and left it in the garage for years. Big mistake. Alkaline batteries leaked, the handle didn't work with bobs and fell out when I needed it most. Stupid! The power went out and I sat in the dark, relying on my phone and waiting for the weather forecast while the water rose. Powered by six rechargeable Eneloop AA batteries. Eneloop batteries never leak, hold a charge for years and can be recharged hundreds/thousands of times. When charging batteries, be sure to set the switch to the rechargeable or alkaline position. I personally advise against avoiding alkaline batteries like the plague. Sangean's attractive AM/FM radio receives crisp, clear signals on both the AM and FM bands and produces surprisingly good sound. Clear and legible controls make it easy to set the time and radio settings; I didn't even bother with the instructions. The radio has a headphone jack on the side. Cons: I wish the Sangean radio was waterproof and had a USB input for my MP3 stuff, but those are minor niggles. I knew that when I bought the machine. Solid five!
