As mentioned in other reviews, they are thicker than standard earrings. Definitely don't use them if you have a relatively new piercing. I learned this the hard way because I seem to enjoy torturing myself. On top of that, the small balls on the back are very nice when worn, but it was quite difficult to screw the balls on the back. The length of the stud is much shorter than most earrings so I had to push the earring into my ear quite firmly while trying to twist the little ball. I used a few selected words. They are very beautiful when you insert and attach them. Also, it's nice that my hair doesn't frizz or get tangled in the back, which drives me crazy about other pads.
