The ounces in the description are a bit misleading. We use it for cereal and I would say it holds a regular sized packet of cereal. I was going to return them but decided against them because they are the perfect size for kids to get their own cereal. You'll have to shake it well to get the flakes, but that's okay too since kids make it on their own. Prevents overflow. I usually take large bags of cereal and just fill them up when they run out. I also have a pair that hold flour and baking powder. But I don't use a spout for them. I am happy with this purchase, love the chalkboard stickers and the chalk pen that comes with it. The plastic is really nice. It also seals very well. I definitely recommend this for your pantry.
