Assembling consists of attaching the legs and is very simple, you don't even need instructions. I have 3 boys aged 5, 4 and 10 months. The furniture in my house is really breaking and it can take it! I have one for the living room and one for the family room which is pretty much a playroom where kids can run around freely. Both endured the sitting, jumping, climbing, and debauchery I had come to expect from them. The material is easy to wash, so don't be afraid of stains or sticky residue that will ruin the material. The only problem I had was with the damn cat that got its claws in several places leaving tiny holes. Not recommended if you have pets known to be scratchy, but otherwise this is a winner for a high-traffic household.
