Review on 🐱 SmartCat All Natural Clumping Litter: Eco-friendly Solution for Effortless Odor Control and Quick Clean-Up by Adrienne Phillips

Revainrating 4 out of 5

funny, the last type of litter i finally tried turned out to be the best!

**My rating for this type of litter is based on cleaning our giant pet litter boxes at least twice a day and often right after I smell poop when I at home.** I couldn't stand the smell of natural bedding at home with its putrid smell of used bedding, so I decided not to try this type of grass seed bedding. What a big mistake, I could have saved quite a bit over the last few years not having to throw out the bad junk if I just tried. it's a bit more expensive (20 pounds is like 40 pounds of clay, so about 1.5 times a 40 pound bag of Dr. Elsey's fillers), but it does literally everything many of us are looking for in a filler; low-dust to dust-free (depending on brand and handling - this one has low dust, petko has no dust), clumps very well, leaves no cement piles on boxes, no perfume/scent smell (it's just a slight oatmeal smell to me) some sort of fragrance ), it's lighter, lasts longer than clay litter, and when the litter is placed in anti-odor bags, it doesn't evaporate like other litters. However, the disadvantage of this filler is twofold; 1. It doesn't go well everywhere (worse than even light fillers like microcrystals) and I have very large honeycomb mats surrounding our giant trays, but they still can't stop this junk from making its way through our house! 2. Some cats want to eat it! Less than a minute after we placed it in one of our crates, the cat, who had never eaten any other litter before, climbed in, sniffed the litter and began chewing. home every day rather than breathing dust and dusting every other day like I've done on most other litters before. Now you don't have to dust (at least with another brand) for a week, even the small metal dustbin next to the box is still dust-free! I solved the litter eating problem by mixing 20% of the multi-cat sand litter we used which I knew wasn't dusty. C&S has a strong scented odor (which is why we stopped using it, although it's not mixed too heavily with this litter) so I think it deters cats from eating grass seed litter, or at least I haven't seen cats or anyone else has been eating it since (now I just add a cup or two of C&S once a week). I buy the Petco version and I think it's the type except that it has more fines and is therefore about 5% dusty (possibly due to storage/handling etc.)). I'm mixing it with Petco right now, so I don't know if this smart cat will work until it's most of the junk in the boxes. This smart cat is about $3-5 cheaper at Β£20 currently $22 and even cheaper with a subscription so I now subscribe to 5 of these litters a month as the price is cheaper. 4 stars on this point because the humidity is low/air dry on the East Coast at the moment and I'd like to see how this fill holds up on warmer/wetter days and how it performs in different areas of our home before I put him in one Rating of 5. I used to have a good filler. in some areas of our home but not others, and behave very differently during the warm/wet months, such as B. Clumping Microcrystalline Litter, which works great in our upstairs hallway, but terrible next to our upstairs dining room/kitchen and cat bedroom. Grass seed litter will last up to 10 cats, that's impressive! Update: used exclusively in the litter box, no mixing, and after about 4-5 hours the air in the cat room smelled funny, like a slight smell of poop. so much so that after seeing there was no poop in the box, I started looking for poop all over the room, even checking the cat's asses! the auto subscription i set up after buying the first bag has already been shipped so i have 5 bags to use and after that i will go back to using the sophresh version which doesn't make the air smell like poop in other parts of my house ! However, I am hoping that maybe I got lucky and only the first bag had an odor problem. Update again: Bad first bag! One recently opened bag out of the 5 bags I got did not smell in the room. In love with this weed seed filler and its Sophresh version! Emptying the boxes doesn't take time now, and while it's odorless, it has since reduced the infiltration of horrible poop odors into our homes (due to protein/fat meal replacement and digestive poop issues) by a good 90%. we started using this type of junk again. Update again: grrr 3rd bag stinks up again! There seems to be a quality issue between the pouches, the second was great but the first and third were not and when I filled part of the third pouch with the previous pouch I noticed that the third pouch's filler was a darker color than the second. there are 2 more bags to use after that i just stick with the petco version, no smell downstairs where we only use petco and that's per bag so far (about 6).

Pros
  • Very good value for money
