Revainrating 4 out of 5

Five stars but for the rust problem

I posted this review first and later tried to add a photo and additional comments using the "Comments" link to the review. Unfortunately I didn't see how to add a photo to the comments, so I tried "Undo". This ruled out the entire review. It should be back now (thanks for the cut/paste) along with the photo and added thoughts: First Rating: I'm giving this 4* mainly because it's such good value for money; it is universal; and it easily adapts for use on T-Post. Please note that very few T-Post mounts have as much range of motion as this tool. I would give it 5 stars if I expect it to last more than a year but I fear it will rust quickly and the various slingshots that are so slick now will no longer exist. Note to HME: If you galvanized and then painted it would be 10 stars. It should have cost more, but most of us who hate rusty iron would happily pay $5 more. I don't really like the little bolt for attaching to the tree. First, there is only one, and it will almost certainly end up in the wrong place where it was first placed; and removing it from the tree will be more trouble than it's worth. Just use a 3" Torx drive deck screw; You'll need a drill anyway to keep the decking screw light and easy. To use it on a T-bar (where it really shines until it rusts), get a piece of 1x scrap from your local store (mine was a piece of 3/8" plywood measuring about 4" x 8 ", but pretty much any will do). the size); drill two holes at the top for the U-bolt; drill a hole just below for an appropriately sized screw and attach the HME to the board. Then use simply use a u-bolt to attach the board to the t-post, making sure to bring the long end down so it rests against the t-post, if you want to mount the unit face up you will need two U-Bracket Additional Thoughts: In order to mount this unit to another pole without first screwing it to a larger (wooden) board, you will need a thin 6" driver. Since the rotary mechanism interferes with the direct drive and you with a screwdriver through a small hole in the base mechanism (see picture) But this is easy, with a drill just take a few more pieces are already forming on the nuts of the mechanics Come on, HME, stainless steel is not much more per piece.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
