I have tall scratching posts with a wide base, trees and cheap cardboard rectangles that you throw on the ground. Decided to give it a try as it is more visually appealing than cardboard and theoretically lasts longer. However, it tips from side to side fairly easily, at which point the cat clearly cannot use it. I think because of the stability issues, the cat just decides not to use it. The scratching surface is held in place by visible staples around the edge, which I've never seen on any other cat scratching product.
