I use this as a work surface for very fine constructions. The magnetic areas work well and there is a lip all the way around to keep small items from rolling off. It's been a few weeks and the matte is mostly flattened out, there's still a bit of curvature around the edges but nothing to take advantage of the effects. There are a few playful spelling mistakes ("otar” instead of "other”) on the packaging and on the mat itself, but these again do not affect the functionality. Mine had no noticeable odor when I received it but the packaging was damaged in transit so it may have been aired out in transit.
