I already have enough to take with me on set. Anything I can get that makes my life easier and my transportation more efficient is welcome. I've been using GVM products for quite some time so I was happy to see they released this 3 light kit based on updated versions of the 800D. I've been a big fan of the 800D since it first came out and when I saw three lights with stands and a case at this price point I was pretty much compelled to buy them. I have to say I'm very glad I did it. Wattage: One of these lamps has more than enough wattage to serve as the main light source for most of my work. While I'm not sure how many lumens the 850D puts out, it definitely shines brighter than my 800. Portability:. There is more than enough room in the case for four racks, three 850Ds and one 800D, which I already had. Being able to turn up on set with four lights and stands in one suitcase is a huge game changer for me. Had I wanted to sooner, I probably would have taken one of my big, heavy, bulky travel cases with a combination of panels and monotubes inside. Now I can take this case with me along with my PSU bag and go out knowing I have enough light to get most of the work done. Speaking of portability, these lights each run on a couple of NP batteries. So if like me you have a massive stash of NP batteries for your monitors, lights and everything else this should come, that's really good news. Versatility - barn doors? Check. diffusion plates? Check. Possibility of two-tone picture? Check. RGB capability with saturation control? Check. Built-in Scenes? Check. Hell, I even used them for some product shots while doing commercial work. There's not much you can do with these lanterns. build quality. Given their price, no one expects to see as much metalwork as the 850s. The build quality of the GVM is truly best in class for an entry-level professional flashlight at this price point. I'm not suggesting you use them for rugby practice, but you don't need to handle them with kid gloves on set. I can't wait to see how well the case holds up to multiple uses in my car and shopping cart. As for the stands, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are made of steel and not aluminum. The tube is slightly thicker in diameter than you would expect from a mid-sized folding carrier. and here's why: The built in wireless master/slave control these lights have is amazing. It's easy to set up, it's easy to switch from one light to another, it's responsive, reliable, and makes my life easier because it doesn't rely on intermittent Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections from cell phones.
