I had a problem with my hard drive, couldn't use online recovery, and couldn't find anyone with a Thunderbolt Mac. I didn't feel like taking apart my Mac and using an adapter drive to try to recover my data, so I grabbed the fastest available XC SD card I could find, installed Yosemite on the card, and started from there to rebuild my internal hard drive . What I love most is that I can run my OS from this SD XC card, it's freaking fast! Ok, it would probably be better (and certainly faster) to use an SSD, and it probably won't work as the primary drive, so I'll switch back soon, but it works really well. In fact, this can be a good defense. Tool. I can encrypt the internal drives and store all my important data there, and then simply remove the SD card and my data is safe from prying eyes. But I suppose if someone had physical access they could just format it and all my data would be gone. I don't think that's the ideal solution. That's probably a terrible idea and I doubt I'll ever need it. In any case. Great SD card, it's very fast!
