Review on Magnifying HITTI Stepless 8 Diopter Magnifier by Warren Hess

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The positives outweigh the negatives.

PROS-Great light. With 3 levels of adjustment very bright when you need it, but the fact that you can "soften" the color to mimic a more natural and less harsh effect helps to see the colors properly. The magnifying glass is made of glass, not plastic. This makes it more durable, easier to clean and much sharper than a plastic lens. -5x magnification. Most other bulbs in this price range only have a 2.5x magnification, with a small 1 inch diameter 5x "cyclops" that I used most of the time. CONS: It works well and you get used to it fairly quickly, but I almost put the whole lamp back in the box and sent it back before using it because it just didn't have a quality 'feel'. The hand is uncomfortable and a little "twitchy". Adjustability and range of motion are fairly limited and it takes a while to get where you want to go. Especially at the beginning. -The base is too light. If you extend your arm to the limit, the lamp will tip over. A 2 pound dumbbell weight fixes this, but it's not something that needs fixing at all. It's by no means perfect. However for the price. Quality and reliability where you need it. To get better, I'm willing to pay double or more for the features of this lamp. The best I can say is that if it doesn't get you what you want, you're probably buying at the wrong price.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Upgradeable
