I bought a DuoSharp Fine/Coarse about a year ago and that's all I use for kitchen and fixed blade knives. I also bought a very thin DMT stone that I finish with a sling to get hair parting edges. The base has a smart, efficient design and holds the diamond stones securely in place. Rubber feet prevent the base from moving and the 8 inch surface is perfect for large kitchen knives. Ever since I showed my wife how to take care of blades, I haven't had to use the rough side of stones for a long time. Your knives are crucial. I've had friends bring me knives that are completely dull and I've had to use the rough side to sharpen the edge profile faster before moving on to a finer grit. Spraying the diamond stones with some water has given me the best results. It also helps me keep the surface clean. Overall I am very happy with this set and get fast and reliable results every time. Sharp knife = happy woman.
