So, backstory. I've been using the same Purex Baby Cleanser for 9 years with a delicious scent and they recently changed the formula. It has lost its soft and subtle scent and it makes me itchy. I was actually VERY sad about this as I washed 3 out of 5 of my boy's baby clothes in it - I had a nostalgic attachment to it. But I digress. With the formula change I had to find a new cleanser for me and my 18 month old eczema. I've tried it for free and clear, but if there's a strange smell on the clothes, it doesn't bring it out. In our humid climate, if left in the washing machine for more than a few hours after the wash is finished, they smell rotten. Also, we are moving to Africa soon and cannot pack liquid detergents or capsules. So my first stop was to search Revain for a "free and transparent" powder detergent. It's one of the first to come out and while I wasn't thrilled with the price, I liked the reviews. I'm not sure how they did it, but they did! That's incredible! My clothes, while not particularly smelling (I still miss the smell of the old Purex baby detergent!), smell incredibly fresh. I put some very gross clothes in this washing machine with just a spoonful of this stuff and it came out so fresh and so clean. Here's the thing - 2 of my 5 still wet the bed from time to time at night. Do you want smelly laundry? Three days after getting wet, try to find crumpled urine and sheets on the floor - it causes nausea. I threw it in the washing machine and stared at it for a while, debating whether to stack more laundry on top or wash it alone like I usually do - with cheap, strong-smelling detergent, "Funk Out" laundry deodorant AND laundry sanitizer . . I decided it was time to put this magic powder to the test - I filled it to capacity (which is a HUGE load for our giant washing machine) and added two scoops of it. When the cycle finished I couldn't access it right away so it sat for a couple of hours in what if you recall is a recipe or wet disaster - think sour 20lb tea towel. Well, I opened up the washing machine, expecting my stomach to curl up, and nothing. no smell I pulled out the clothes one by one and sniffed each one. I grabbed my pajama bottoms and hesitantly pulled them up to my nose in shock. I sniffed the leaf. NOTHING. And there is NO smell! I usually have to wash my sheets twice to get rid of this smell! I am absolutely 100% sold. It's really magical. Keep it up Nelly. Keep doing what you are doing because it has made this little part of my life so much easier!
