I put the mat on the ottoman, and soon my cat, Leo, layed down on it. I thought perhaps he could feel the cooling. I don't think he did. He always explores new things around the house: get in empty boxes, sits on towels or whatever is new. This pad didn't seem to mean anything special to him. We live in Arizona so it is hot in the summer. Inside the house we cool it to 80 degrees so I thought the pad would make it seem cooler to him. I really don't think he noticed it was cooler than anything else he lays on. It's a light blue color and looks ok on the ottoman, but I wouldn't recommend it as a cooling pad.
