Saved my wooden railing

I was afraid to poke holes in my wooden railing when it came time to install the gate on the stairs. I was researching a few do-it-yourself gate adapter projects and then found this article. For the price it was worth buying a kit for me rather than trying to assemble it myself. I first bought one for the top of the stairs to see how well it worked. Installation was very easy. Has a cutout at the top and bottom. You take a velcro strap and thread it through the board, around the railing and through the velcro hook. I tightened the belt as tight as I could. Even with the strap as tight as possible, the board will still move slightly when using the gate. However, a slight movement will not prevent the gate from working properly. My gate still opens, closes and latches correctly. Disclaimer: One of the reasons for the small movement might be that I can't put the adapter fully on the ground. I molded around the legs of my railing so I had to place the adapters about an inch or so off the ground. For those of you who cannot put the adapter directly on the floor, this article is still effective. This item was so effective that when I needed to install a gate there I bought another for the base of my stairs. I was a bit disappointed with one of the tapes. I received two different strap versions. One was similar to my original model and of good quality. The second was of a different model and lower quality. However, both straps still held the piece of wood in place. I bought the same gate for the bottom and top of the stairs and both work fine with the adapter kit. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about patching the railing while cleaning the gate.
