UPDATE 2: Well, I tried to live with that, but the inability to correct the settings after a reboot/wake cycle, as well as PWM noise, made me spend a little more money to get something to get different. Too bad these fans are crippled by a crappy control box. BUT - they are good fans, if you can live with those shortcomings, and very cheap. If you have another (6 pin) control box that is better then it might be just what you need. UPDATE: I found that the controller doesn't remember fan speed settings or lighting mode/color. No matter what I set, after a reboot or sleep cycle, the fans always turn on at maximum settings and in "Auto mode" where they cycle through different color patterns. A little annoying, but not a deal breaker. The auto mode is actually pretty good and can be changed with a press of the remote. You look amazing! There is a ring of light at the back, front and center, with the center one illuminating the fans. Once I had the pins properly aligned (arrow -> ground) I had no problem connecting them to my mobo's built in RGB controller (Fusion) and using the built in RGB capabilities. If your phone doesn't have built-in RGB functionality, I found selecting modes with the included controller is pretty handy too, with lots of cool effects. I think if that is the case for those reading this then you will be pleased with the included controller and its features. The construction feels solid and the claims on the box that it's a fluid bearing seem true - they spin smoothly and long with a snap of your fingers, just like my other fluid bearings. They also seem to have some pretty decent rubber/silicone vibration dampeners. The fan speed can only be controlled with the included remote control, but CONS: 1) There is no way to control the fan speed with the motherboard's built-in functions. And these are 2-wire fans, so there is no speed sensor wire. This means that even if you decide to hack them a bit to bypass the included controller and connect them directly to the motherboard, your phone won't be able to control the fan speed with the built-in speed sensor. You could confuse something with Spifan, but it's hardly worth the effort. 2) Not really a problem, but be aware that they are not as fast (at top speed) as a fan of a famous brand can be. Compared to my Corsair 140mm fans, I would say they are about as fast at max speed as Corsair in "normal mode", and the Corsair pushes out MUCH more air at max speed. To be honest, if you need to run them faster or Corsair is maxed out, you probably have bigger issues worth investigating. Even in a cramped and small case, they push a huge amount of air at standard speed. Even when I'm overclocking and pushing my system to the limit, my system stays nice and cool. 3) SLIGHTLY louder than my 140mm Corsair fans. If your computer is under your desk or far away from you, it probably won't bother you/me. But if you place your computer on a table right next to your head, you'll likely notice the difference. I'm comparing them to the best 140mm Corsairs though - I've heard a lot of fans being louder. My computer is in a niche on the side and on the floor, so that's not an obstacle for me. After much research I found that it was the fan motor itself and no vibration or noise from the blades (which are very quiet). This noise isn't too bad when the fans are running at full speed as the noise is fairly constant and just a slight hum. However, if you run the fans at lower speeds, the PWM used by the controller will become apparent and you may hear a slight on/off/on/off/on/off as the motor is cycled on and off to modulate speed . Depending on how good your hearing is, how sensitive you are to such sounds, and where your computer is located, it may or may not bother you. For me, given the location of my PC and the fact that I'll probably be using it at max speed most of the time, this isn't a deciding factor. However, I think this really needs improvement to make this a 5 star product - either make the motor quieter, or improve the PWM controller to make it "pulse" more evenly, or both. . But overall, this is a surprisingly good deal. Only time will tell how durable they are but they are well made and I am happy with the purchase.
