Based on my experience with this padding, I wouldn't order a spring topper under 5 inches because it compresses significantly less, and I wouldn't order it without the extra topper because the springs come out at the bottom instead of at the top. With what is available here and elsewhere I will have no hesitation in purchasing this comforter. In fact, I buy a new one because we put the mattress topper on top of the mattress we use in our theater room and it's so comfortable we don't want to take it off!
