Review on HP X32C Curved 165Hz FHD Gaming Monitor - 31.5" Certified Display with 1920X1080P Resolution and 1 Audio Jack (Out), VA Panel Type by Jorge Cleveland

I bought an HP X34 on sale and I really like it. The ultra-wide aspect ratio is great for POV gaming (lots of peripheral vision) and encoding/production (2-3 windows side by side). The lack of curvature is a downside - unless you require a flat CAD panel, the edges of the screen appear dull and distant. The monitor gets pretty bright, and while the buttons are clunky, the Omen app for Windows offers all the customization options. The stand is versatile and easy to use. I/O is limited but I'm using a DisplayPort switch so this isn't an issue for me. The monitor is not color calibrated and cannot be easily calibrated in HDR mode (since the settings are disabled and most calibrator applications do not support the Windows HDR color space). Even though it's only HDR400, HDR movie scenes like the John Wick Night Concert Chase still have brighter whites and deeper colors. In 10-bit/HDR mode you're limited to 144Hz, which is fine with me. Local dimming is limited - it only dims the screen in 8 vertical sections and only when it's completely black and free of bright elements like a mouse cursor. This avoids smudges from HDR text but makes dark screens uneven. You can't disable local dimming, but it does next to nothing when you're in SDR mode. There are some minor quirks overall, but the bargain price is worth it. I would consider a curved panel if the price is comparable, but other than that I'm relatively happy with this monitor.
