Comfortable walking shoe, a HUGE mistake

I bought a pair of these shoes in April 2011. Since November 2011 they no longer fit me. So they lasted me a total of 7 months. If you change your daily walking shoes once or twice a year, don't bother reading the rest of this review. Buy it. They are very comfortable and offer fantastic support for your feet. However, if you are going to be wearing your everyday shoes for more than 6 months, please read on. First, let me talk about the positives: I had a pair of shoes that felt better on my feet. I work downtown and walk a lot every day. I usually wear them every weekday when I go to lunch or come (or go) to work. I have never had foot pain or other pain while wearing. Before this pair I had no luck with any other shoe so it was just divine. That means before. Now for the reason I couldn't wear them after only 7 months of use: VELCRO. Each shoe has a strap that goes through an opening on one side and closes again with Velcro at the end. After prolonged use, the fluffy/soft side of the Velcro will begin to give way and the strap will lose grip. That got really annoying. Slowly, over time, as I walked, the straps would unravel (you heard the characteristic sound of the velcro), and then your shoes became incredibly loose and uncomfortable. Then, as I approached the 7 month mark, the Velcro on both shoes came loose as soon as I put them on and stood up. At that point I decided to get rid of them and bought a new pair. Two things about my experience: 1) I contacted Propet's support. They said their warranty is 6 months or 1000 miles (how the heck do they rate the latter?!), whichever comes first. And it only covers the sole of the shoe, not the strap or other parts. Wonderful. I was told that I could "send a photo of the shoes and file a claim" if I wanted to. Needless to say, I wasn't worried. Also, I really didn't want a second pair of the same shoes. The problem lies in their design, not a certain level of quality that was only lacking in my pair. 2) The shoes themselves were VERY nice and comfortable. So I bought another model of Propet shoes (Propet Men's M3851) to replace it. These are slip-ons, without laces and velcro. So I hope it lasts longer. I'll test it at the 6-7 month mark just to be sure. In other words, if you have a little extra to spend, buy another pair of hiking boots. I recommend the Propet brand as such (they specialize in sneakers after all) and their other models. Buy a model with laces or without laces. And if you don't want to spend more, then you probably don't need shoes that you have to change after 6 months. If so, avoid them!

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
