The food is NOT washed off!
This shower curtain lasts 6 months and we don't need more. Our bathroom is undergoing a major renovation and we need something temporary. The price was right, so I bought it. Unlike most shower curtains of this type, THE LINER CANNOT BE WASHED. It breaks off, but it's the thinnest plastic imaginable and can break in the washing machine; I'm not even sure it will hold up if you try to hand wash it. The outside might be washable, but that's not the part you usually want to wash.
