I also noticed that the speakers didn't live up to my expectations. So I bought a set of external speakers that included a BASS speaker and two satellite speakers connected to BASS. Instead of using two satellite speakers, I connected the output. from BASS to monitor, that worked great for me. So I came to the conclusion that the problem is that they had to put some kind of small amplifier in the monitor, but of course it's COMPAQ, which translates to "CHEAP HP" but it serves the purpose more than, I do am happy . Just for reference, I bought "COBY CSMP67" speakers, which are only 50W.
