I have used several mouse pads since I was three years old. Time before replacement is required. My previous Mionix mouse pad did the job well. However, the fabric attracted hair and dust that proved almost impossible to remove completely. It's time for a new mouse pad. While searching, I came across the Razer Firefly. Looking at the product page, I'm convinced that this is just another cloth mouse pad that will inevitably need to be replaced, albeit at three times the price I would normally pay. I wasn't too keen on the LEDs around the edges either and almost missed them. However, after reading some reviews, I discovered that the "hard" version was actually like this: a hard plastic and rubber mouse pad. I have used several plastic mouse pads in my time and none of them functioned as a mouse pad. The first thing that comes to mind is tracking issues, the surface is too slippery and hard edges. However, impulse purchases overwhelmed me and I ended up getting one. This mouse pad is so comfortable I almost don't even need a wrist rest. It's a little larger than I thought it would be and dangles from the edges of the platform I use the mouse on. But that doesn't matter, because the harder material is almost like its own small worktop. The only benefit it brings comes when you use an unrealistic power and chances are you won't even notice it mid-game as it doesn't even affect tracking. The LEDs are actually pretty nice and thinner than I would have thought given previous Razer trends. As for the surface itself, the tracking you get from this mouse pad is phenomenal. This is a type of textured plastic that feels like touching your fingertips. With my current mouse, the Razer Basilisk, it's a match made in heaven. There's a slight scratching noise when you move the mouse, almost like running your fingernail over a plastic bottle, but it's not really noticeable unless you're listening. When you turn off your computer, the LEDs change from their original color (blue in my case) to purple (maybe just mine) and turn off. One of the best.
