I would not increase the size. Daughter wears 4T in t-shirts and sweaters at Carter's, ON etc so I ordered size 5 in rainbow sleeve sweater and it fits like size 5 so it's a bit big for her. In addition, the piece is brightly colored and the sweater itself is creamy yellow instead of ivory. This is a thick cotton material, not a plush sweater, perfect for autumn and spring. Wash inside out in a cool place and tumble dry on medium. Came out fine, no shrinkage or damage.
