Dangerous Tempered Glass Jars

DO NOT BUY THESE. I bought these 1 gallon jars to make kombucha, intended use. In less than 6 weeks of use, two out of four have broken with no apparent contact with a hard surface, the others are sitting on a hard surface during fermentation. The first broke when I took it off the counter: the bottom fell off when the can was full. This morning I opened my fridge and found a broken glass. I don't overfill my banks! There was a 2 inch gap in the jar in the fridge and she burped twice a day. My late father-in-law was a world-renowned glass expert. He told me that this problem occurs with glasses and glassware in general and is due to improper tempering of the glass during the production process, i.e. poor quality control. It is very dangerous to hold a large glass jar filled with liquid. Obviously, these glasses cannot withstand such loads because they have not been properly tempered. I was lucky that when the glass on the counter lost its bottom the glass didn't hit my legs or feet. What a mess! The two that didn't break are used for dry storage.
