I don't use Dawn to wash dishes. I use it to clean my glasses. I have prescription glasses that are quite expensive and the lenses are anti-reflective and scratch-resistant. A tech at an eyewear lab told me they don't recommend using regular lens dishwashing liquid as it's more of a detergent than a soap. They mentioned "Dawn Simply Clean" by name as it was different from most standard dishwashing soaps/detergents. They reminded me that environmentalists use this to clean up oil from wildlife after an oil spill. So I don't remember the technical details of "why", I'm just following their suggestion. I keep this stuff handy in a little bottle by the kitchen sink and use it to keep all my glasses, goggles, sunglasses and goggles clean.
