Let me start by saying that I have no experience with aquariums other than a basic $5 aquarium when I was a kid. Fast forward (many) years and we were gifted some guppies. When I saw that they all survived and interest remained high for a month, I bought this aquarium. I chose this aquarium primarily because of its appearance. I have a small apartment and knew it would be in a high traffic area and wanted something that didn't look so clunky. This aquarium set convinced me. I love that everything is included, including ceramic material (artificial stones) for the bottom and a lid for the top. When I say everything is included I don't mean decorations - 2 pink artificial biOrb plants were purchased as a pair and the white sea lily and biOrb airplane were also purchased separately. I read many reviews before deciding. buy about anything and this was no exception because I didn't know what I would need. One reviewer suggested that two packs of ceramic carriers weren't enough. I'm not sure but maybe they built something big there because I thought that was enough. I also read that someone complained that it was noisy. This thing is QUIET, I promise you, but make sure you don't have a pump against anything that might make it rattle. Basically just leave rubber feet on or use a felt pad. The instructions that came with the biOrb were clear and the whole setup took maybe 10 minutes, the longest part was washing the stones. I chose biOrb plants because I'm stupid and thought they were somehow better. Maybe they are. But to me they look like any artificial aquarium plant - weighted down a bit at the bottom so it can be buried and that's it. After all, I know you should be preparing your tank for weeks (months?) of fish. Well I didn't because it seemed overkill for a tough fish. The biOrb comes with a water purifier and a bag of bacteria that you put in the day before you add the fish. I did, and none of my cute fish had any problems (actually quite the opposite since they started giving birth :/ right after). Aquarium for the wrong reason and didn't do all the fancy show fish that you should. However, for those who are looking for a good quality small acrylic tank that comes with everything, does an excellent job of filtering and gets attention, you've come to the right place. I've also set up maintenance kits in the Subscribe and Save section to make things easier!
