They don't have to be that complicated.

Sun-Sun. Yes. It's durable and seems to protect the iPad really well. Unfortunately, in the last 6 years we have been spoiled with a Ballistic iPad Mini case that is no longer manufactured. So I just don't buy "well, of course it's cumbersome and awkward, but it should be something that protects well." It really isn't. This plastic that Otterbox uses is so hard that the protective case is very difficult to put on and take off. When the baby's alarm goes off and he's already gone somewhere, it takes me a long time to open it and turn it off. I also can't find the power or volume buttons easily by touch, they blend so well. What's honestly funny is the stand. It's on the inside of the lid, which you remove so you can mount your iPad on it. It's not tight at all and since this model now has a pen holder, it won't stay put in certain positions - it wobbles! So no, this isn't a 4-position stand, it's a 3-position stand. The whole situation is far from stable, so if you tug on the charger or headphone cord, instead of just scooting across the table a bit or doing nothing at all, it slides off the stand and... well, we've known it that long-lived, because it fell on the floor more times on the first day than the iPad in the old case did in a year. It is quite heavy and very, very difficult to install compared to other options that offer similar protection. I never had to read the kind of instructions and those instructions were meaningless. It took YouTube and a lot of swearing and a nicked open cuticle. Even then, it didn't fit the speakers properly and had to be tweaked into position a bit with a toothpick. I sincerely hope that the day will come when there will be another rugged iPad mini case with a kickstand and a screen-covering case. Because it just doesn't work.
