Failed on my second underwater trip

I bought this camera in August 2009, just after it was launched. The intention was to use it while snorkeling in the Caribbean on a cruise. I used it underwater on three different days during this cruise. Although the viewfinder fogged up a bit, everything else seemed to be working fine. As instructed, I soaked it in fresh water after use and dried it thoroughly before opening the battery cover. At the moment I'm still happy. Took camera again to use on a Western Caribbean cruise in January 2012. Again, the intended use is diving photography. were in the battery door seal. (I even used a Panasonic brush). I got the camera in the water on my first day of diving (never below 5ft I might add) and that was the last time the camera was functional. First I noticed that my settings themselves went from "underwater" to randomly changing settings. Pulled the camera out of the water and tried to change the scene setting back to underwater. Vain. Tried turning the camera off and on again. Vain. Final death came when the camera refused to even turn on again. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAMERA!. Paid $340 to J&R through Revain in 2009 for the limited functionality of this camera. I also see that my case is not unique. Many other people have experienced the same problems.

Pros
  • 12.1 megapixel resolution gives enough detail for poster size prints
Cons
  • This makes me angry
